Mari Smith – Human Design and Personality Assessments

The Human Design System is by far the most profound, comprehensive and accurate tool I’ve ever come across. In Human Design, I am a 1/3 Pure Sacral Generator, born on the RAX (Right Angle Cross) of Explanation. Split Definition, Bridging Gate 1. Ten Line 1’s and 2x Gate 62’s – the Gate of Detail. I love, love, love to investigate a subject very deeply to get to the bottom line and create a secure and solid foundation. If you’re not familiar with Human Design, the description I just shared won’t make a lot of sense to you. Yet!

I first had a Human Design reading in the early 2000s, probably around 2003 or so.

All I can recall from that reading was the Analyst told me I had a ‘very busy mind’ and that it was ‘probably hard for me to meditate.’ (Uh, hello 64-47 Abstraction – a very visual mind, going over past events, making sense of my experiences and, once I’ve reached a place of clarity, sharing stories with others).

Otherwise, honestly, nothing at all in the reading landed with me. I didn’t remember my Type or Inner Authority.

I couldn’t compute this complicated array of geometric shapes, numbers, symbols, planets, etc. I had no clue how to take all this complex information and apply it in a practical manner in my life. I guess it wasn’t the right timing for me.

Over the years, I ‘bumped into’ Human Design a few more times. Again, nothing landed or ‘stuck’ with me long enough to make an impact.

Then, it was Winter Solstice 2020 when a very dear friend of mine came over to my house for one of our regular visits. As we sat down at my kitchen table for a wonderful catch up chat, she told me that, as she was walking out her front door this morning, she had this intuitive sense that she should bring this book over to share with me. She reached into her purse, pulled the book out, and handed it to me across the table.

I will seriously never forget that moment for the rest of my life!!

I jumped out of my chair, threw my arms in the air and exclaimed, “WHAT?!!? HUMAN DESIGN?!!? There’s books on that? You can study it?!” Lol. Talk about right, divine timing. Yes indeed.

You see, as the leading Facebook marketing expert since 2007, sure I was relatively satisfied with my career. It was the longest I’d ever stuck with any one path in my adult life. (And I started very young! I left high school in Scotland age 15 and had my 16th birthday at my first job as an office admin assistant!)

BUT, for many years prior to Winter Solstice 2020, I had this growing desire – almost a longing – to find something else to ADD to my career. Something that could really truly touch people’s lives. Way more than showing them how to figure out marketing on Facebook! And I just absolutely knew with every cell of my body that the ‘something else’ I was looking for was The Human Design System.

From the moment my dear girlfriend brought me the book on Human Design I threw myself headlong into massive investigations, learning as much as I could as close to the original source information as I could possibly get. I quickly learned that there is an enormous number of self-proclaimed analysts, teachers, certification issuers, etc. that are entirely self-taught. Along with leaders that have mutated the body of knowledge, changing distinctions significantly. Each to their own. Sure, there’s room for everyone. For me, I just know it’s correct to honor the source information from the origin which is Ra Uru Hu.

I am currently in my 4th year of studies, on my way to becoming a Certified Human Design Analyst via the official International Human Design School.

I’m also studying the business application of the Human Design System at the BG5 Business Institute and am on my way to becoming a BG5 Business Consultant.

Part of the vision that has slowly been coming to me as I continue my studies of this profound Human Design knowledge is to integrate key distinctions and practical applications into the work I do with social media marketing and business development.

In March 2022, I launched a new community that is totally free to join called Mari Smith’s Superstars, proudly built on the Mighty Networks platform. Would you like to come check it out? You’ll find lots of free resources on Human Design as well as social media marketing.

Then at the end of 2023, I finally felt the timing was right to launch my first integrated program, simply called Mentor with Mari. This will be the first of many, many offerings!

I’ve been a mega fan of personality assessments for as long as I can remember. The DISC model was a mainstay for me since my early 20’s. Then I go to know more about MBTI Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. And after that, many more wonderful tools like Strengthsfinder, the Reiss Desire Profile and many more.

Now I know as a Generator Type (which is also true for Manifesting Generators), that SELF KNOWLEDGE is critical. ‘Know thyself.’ Our existential question is, ‘Who am I?’ But there’s more to it than that. It’s, ‘Who am I for myself?’ To then have that self knowledge and show up in the world as a more authentic True-Self, correctly motivated Outer Authority for others.

With self knowledge, Generators can design a LIFE and CAREER around their Type and Strengths. And outsource projects and tasks that do not bring satisfaction. There’s no need to waste your precious time trying to get better and better at stuff you’re not good at, don’t have any energy for, and find frustrating to even tackle.

For example, I can’t imagine trying to manage my own accounting and tax returns. I’ve used the services of professional bookkeepers and CPAs for decades. Whilst I am for sure a super detail oriented person and can be very logical, accounting is just not my jam. I don’t have that Skill in my chart. 😉

Following is my original article published in 2009, with most of these assessments taken in 2006-7. Just in case it’s of interest to you… and to see the incredible array of personality tests and assessments I’ve been drawn to take.

If you have any questions about any of these assessments, feel free to reach out to me – see the contact page.

    Leo (August 12) FIRE

Fire and Water are opposite components of the EMOTIONAL BODY. Fire is enthusiasm, passion, inspiration and all forms of outward emotional expression. Water represents feelings that we experience deeply and do not express.Four or more placements in Fire signs – Aries, Leo and Sagittarius – indicate a person who has a passionate nature. They are enthusiastic, dramatic, adventurous, inspirational, impassioned about life and outwardly excitable. If there are more planets in Fire than Water, the person may express emotions more theatrically than what they actually feel inside. For example, they may ¨fly off the handle¨ with: ¨Why did you leave that light on?!!!¨… when it’s really not that big a deal to them.Sometimes the Fire is understated and the person seems almost unemotional, in which case it’s the intensity of expression that others notice. If you have many planets in Fire signs and few in Water, you may inadvertently have others walking on egg shells around you because of your ¨enthusiastic outbursts.¨ You might want to let them know: ¨Look, I just have a passionate nature. It’s not really that big a deal to me.¨ Inwardly the people around you will sense the truth of what you are saying and can begin to relax around you, and stop resisting your energy.(Narrative sourced from Jan Spiller).

    Chinese Horoscope
    Year of the Horse (1966)

Thank goodness for open spaces, because the Horse needs plenty of room to roam! Energetic, good with money and very fond of travel, Horses are the nomads of the Chinese Zodiac, roaming from one place or project to the next. All of this Sign’s incessant activity and searching may be to satisfy a deep-rooted desire to fit in. Paradoxically, Horses feel a simultaneous yearning for independence and freedom. Horses crave love and intimacy, which is a double-edged sword since it often leads them to feel trapped. Love connections tend to come easily to Horses, since they exude the kind of raw sex appeal that is a magnet to others. This Sign tends to come on very strong in the beginning of the relationship, having an almost innate sense of romance and seduction. Horses are seducers in general; check out any A-list party and you’re bound to find the Horse in attendance. This Sign possesses a sharp wit and a scintillating presence; it really knows how to work a crowd. Surprisingly, Horses tend to feel a bit inferior to their peers, a misconception that causes them to drift from group to group out of an irrational fear of being exposed as a fraud. An impatient streak can lead Horses to be less than sensitive to others’ needs. These colts would rather take a situation firmly in hand as opposed to waiting for others to weigh in or come to terms with it. The lone wolf inside the Horse can at times push others away, but this also makes this Sign stronger and is a key to its success. Horses are self-reliant and, though they might lose interest fast in a tedious, nine-to-five day job, are willing to do the work necessary to get ahead.Horses tend not to look much at the big picture; instead they just follow their whims, which can result in a trail of prematurely ended relationships, jobs, projects and so on. This Sign really knows how to motivate others, though, and get a lot accomplished. Once they find some peace within themselves, they can curb their wandering tendencies and learn to appreciate what’s in their own backyard.(Narrative sourced from iVillage).
